Youth Soccer Clubs in San Antonio

Who plays here, where they travel from, and how to choose one for your player.

November 3, 2026

Most lists of youth soccer clubs are directories: every name somebody could find, in alphabetical order, with no way to tell which ones your team will actually meet. This one is built differently. It is the field that has registered for the Attacking Third Tournament on November 20–22, 2026 — 17 clubs that have each committed a team and a travel weekend to play in San Antonio. A tournament entry is a harder signal than a directory listing, because it costs something.

The 17 Clubs Playing Attacking Third 2026

San Antonio

6 of the 17 are San Antonio clubs, which is what you would expect from a tournament at Alamo Sportplex on the city’s northwest side.

The I-35 Corridor and the Hill Country Edge

The second group is the real story of South Texas youth soccer. These clubs are close enough to drive in for a Saturday and home by Sunday night, and they are why a San Antonio tournament weekend is competitive rather than parochial.

Houston

3 clubs travel in from Greater Houston, roughly three hours each way. Clubs do not make that drive for a weak bracket.

3 further clubs have registered whose home city we have not confirmed, so they are counted above but not placed. We would rather leave a gap than guess at somebody else’s club.

What the Map Tells You

Read the three groups together and you get the honest competitive radius for a San Antonio youth team: your weekly league is local, your tournament weekends reach Seguin, Schertz, Converse and Castroville, and the genuinely strong weekends pull Austin and Houston in. That is a healthy soccer market. It also means a family choosing a club here is not choosing between two or three options — the real question is which level and which commitment, not which name.

How to Choose a Youth Soccer Club in San Antonio

1. Start with the level, not the badge

Recreational, academy and competitive are different sports in practice. Rec is one training a week and weekend games. Academy adds a second training and a placement evaluation. Competitive means three to four trainings, tryouts, travel and a year-round commitment. Picking a club before picking a level is how families end up somewhere that does not fit.

2. Ask what the season actually costs, in full

Club fees, league registration, uniforms, tournament entries and travel are five separate numbers, and only the first is usually advertised. Ask for all five before you commit. PFA publishes its full pricing and offers payment plans and scholarships, and you should expect any club to answer the same question plainly.

3. Check how far you will really drive

Training location matters more than any other practical factor, because you will make that drive two to four times a week for ten months. Tournament travel is occasional; Tuesday traffic is not.

4. Ask how teams are formed, and how often they are reformed

Some clubs set rosters at tryouts and leave them alone for a year. Others move players between teams mid-season. Neither is wrong, but you want to know which one you are joining before your player is attached to a group of team-mates.

5. Go watch a training before you register

Thirty minutes at the side of a field tells you more than any website, this one included. Watch how coaches talk to players who make mistakes. That is the thing you are actually buying.
